What to Expect When Filling Out the Application Form


The application will request the following information:

  • Your contact information.
  • Your date/expected date of graduation.
  • The desired length of program participation.
  • List of the top 5 available research projects of interest
  • A copy of your college transcript (unofficial copy acceptable).
  • The contact information (name/address/email) for one reference.


Answers to the following questions:

  • Briefly describe your current career goals and explain how the Fred Hutch postbac program would advance them? (200 words max)
  • What areas of biology interest you and why? (200 words max)
  • Please provide a brief description of any relevant coursework or past research experience. Note that previous research experience is not required. (200 words max)
  • A Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement. (200 words max)
    (Statements should include a description of past experiences (roles you have played in making improvements to DEI) and/or planned activities for supporting DEI initiatives.)
  • Is there any information pertinent to your application that you would like to add that was not covered in the previous questions? (200 words max)

Eligibility

  • Fred Hutch postbaccalaureate scholars should be recent college graduates (ideally <2 years post-graduation or individuals who are switching careers and are interested in pursuing doctoral-level training) who would benefit from strengthening their content knowledge and skill preparedness to be competitive for graduate training.  
  • Scholars from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed and select candidates will be invited to meet virtually with one or more of the faculty whose research projects they identified. All applicants who then match to a lab will be admitted to the scholar program.

Deadline

Applications will open on January 31 and will close on February 24. Prospective scholars should expect to hear from the program by the start of April. For any questions please contact postbac@fredhutch.org

Program Start Date

The Fred Hutch Cancer Center Postbaccalaureate Scholar Program will begin on July 21st, 2025 in Seattle, Washington.
