Dr. Keith Loeb, a former Center postdoctoral fellow, recently joined the Clinical Research Division's Pathology Lab as a new faculty member. Prior to his appointment, Loeb was a hematopathology research fellow in the University of Washington's Department of Laboratory Medicine.
Loeb's research focuses on the processes that lead to genetic instability and cancer. His major work showed that misregulation of cyclin E, a key factor in promoting DNA synthesis, can promote chromosomal abnormalities and cancer. The loss of additional regulatory pathways that normally inhibit excess cyclin E function promotes more aggressive cancer development.
His future studies will focus on the role of cyclin E in promoting myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic disorders in humans. Loeb is also collaborating on a number of other projects focused on genetic instability in pre-neoplastic disorders.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to return to the Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance to continue my studies," Loeb said. "The Center provides an ideal environment for both clinical and basic science with its strong commitment to collaborative and innovative research."
