The fifth floor of the Arnold Building, which houses the labs of Drs. Nicole Urban and Samir Hanash, has a new name in honor of a foundation that funds the Hutchinson Center’s early cancer detection research.
The Canary Foundation Research Floor is titled in recognition of the foundation’s donations, which total more than $2.8 million. The foundation has supported the Center’s early detection research in ovarian, prostate, lung and pancreas cancers. Foundation founder and Center board member Don Listwin and his family visited staff and faculty at the floor’s formal dedication ceremony earlier in the summer.
“It is very appropriate that the fifth-floor labs in Arnold have been named for the Canary Foundation, because many of the scientists with labs there have benefited from generous donations from Canary and Don Listwin,” Urban said. “Canary is committed to early detection of ovarian, prostate, lung and pancreas cancer.”
The floor is home to several researchers who have received grants from the foundation, including Dr. Chris Loch (in the lab of Dr. Paul Lampe) and faculty members in the Molecular Diagnostics Program including Hanash and Drs. Martin McIntosh, Chuck Drescher and Sunil Hingorani.
