Genetics has always been a fascinating subject to me. The fact that I could combine that love with counseling skills and making a difference in people's lives made genetic counseling an ideal profession for me.
I have been counseling patients regarding hereditary cancer syndromes since 2009 and have been a genetic counselor at Fred Hutch since February 2013 seeing patients with all cancer types. I see patients at Fred Hutch at EvergreenHealth, UW Medical Center – Northwest and the South Lake Union Clinic.
I’ve always loved working with people and getting to know them. I get to hear my patient’s stories, worries, and hopes as well as help them process what is often a difficult time in their lives. It is my goal to make sure that every patient I see is comfortable with the decision they make about pursuing or not pursuing genetic testing. I will also ensure that there is a clear plan in place for follow-up for those patients who are found to have an inherited form of cancer.
In my off time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, camping and generally being outside in nature.
Patient Care Philosophy
Each person is unique and has different needs. My goal is to learn what is important to each person and approach each visit with that individual need in mind. I want my patients to feel comfortable working with me and to feel heard.
