First Hand Experience
Growing up, Anthony Woody saw firsthand how smoking impacted the health and longevity of his father, uncle and other members in his family. As fate would have it, Anthony went back to school after a brief career in print journalism and has spent the better part of the past two decades helping people quit various forms of tobacco, including cigarettes, hookah and smokeless tobacco.
Outside of work, Anthony is a devoted father and avid supporter of local sports teams. He enjoys listening to music and, when time permits, playing a little, too, traveling, watching anime with his daughter and creative writing.
Patient Care Philosophy
Anthony is a strong proponent of the biopsychosocial model and uses this approach to help patients address the physical addiction, behavioral component and emotional/social aspect of tobacco use. He uses the principles of motivational interviewing to guide his patient encounters and preaches the importance of fundamentals, while striving for a comprehensive and holistic approach to tobacco treatment.
Clinical Expertise
Anthony began working as a certified tobacco treatment specialist for Fred Hutch in March 2023. Throughout his career in tobacco cessation, which spans 15 years and more than 18,000 completed interventions, Anthony has worked with patients from varied backgrounds and demographics, including American Indian/Alaska Natives, youth and the uninsured. He also has previous experience working in adult and juvenile corrections/rehabilitation as well as for an employee assistance program.
