Brandon Omernik has served as a tobacco treatment specialist at Fred Hutch since 2021. He began working in tobacco prevention with the Wisconsin Department of Health and Federal Drug Administration.

Brandon also provides outreach and education about current best practices and guidelines around tobacco treatment services with local community organizations and serves as co-chair of Washington Breathes, a statewide commercial tobacco coalition. 

Patient Care Philosophy

Utilizing a humanistic approach, Brandon assists patients in identifying their unique personal desires for stopping tobacco use and developing a plan for living a life free of nicotine dependence. Utilizing skill-building, and Acceptance and Commitment approaches, he works with patients to develop the skills to overcome commercial tobacco use disorders and empower lasting healthy behavior change.

Clinical Expertise

Prior to joining Fred Hutch, Brandon’s initial work in tobacco control and prevention began in 2018 with the Wisconsin Department of Health and FDA. Upon completion of his Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist training from Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Program, he transitioned to client-focused interventions and working in the clinical environment.
