Michael Sarko

A portrait of Michael Sarko.

I engaged in clinical pastoral education to broaden my practical learning while in rabbinic seminary. During that time, I found a calling in the field of spiritual care, and I have been practicing ever since.

I joined the Fred Hutch Spiritual Health team in 2023. I serve patients at the South Lake Union Clinic, UW Medical Center - Montlake and UW Medical Center - Northwest, as well as providing telehealth services to patients throughout other Fred Hutch locations.

I find it meaningful and fulfilling to connect with people through compassionate service. My patients demonstrate courage in seeking care for their emotional well-being, and it is a privilege to accompany them on their journey.

Outside of work, I love to cook, especially when inviting guests to join my family around the table.

Patient Care Philosophy

I believe in patient-guided spiritual care. This means facilitating a care relationship in which the patient decides the pace, topics and communication styles of our interactions.

I strive to provide a calm, accepting presence so my patients feel safe to be honest in the vulnerable and sometimes overwhelming setting of medical care. I work to empower patients by honoring and expanding their autonomy while they do the hard work of healing.
