Surgery

“I cherish the connections I make with patients and the trust they place in me.”

— Dr. Bhrany

What do you enjoy most about your work?

It’s really gratifying to see the difference I can make from the beginning of a procedure to the end, whether it’s a reconstructive or cosmetic effort. In addition to caring for patients in the U.S., I travel to Cambodia once a year to help people who have facial abnormalities due to cancer, trauma or congenital conditions. Along with several other team members, I help train Cambodian medical students and residents in otolaryngology (conditions affecting the ear, nose and throat) and facial plastic surgery. Being able to make a difference in the lives of those in need, here at home or abroad, always reminds me why I love the practice of medicine. I feel very fortunate to do what I do.

How do you approach your relationships with patients?

I understand that the prospect of surgery can be scary. I take the time to listen to your needs and what you’re feeling anxious about so that I can put you at ease. Before reaching a decision about how to move forward, I want you to be well-versed in the pros and cons of each surgical option and what the recovery time frame looks like. I’ll address your concerns with diligence and without judgment. My aim is always to partner with you to create the most satisfying outcome possible.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Head and neck cancers, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers

I am a surgeon who is double-board-certified in facial plastic surgery and otolaryngology. My clinical practice focuses on the reconstruction of the face, head and neck following cancer surgery. As a clinical associate professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine, I train other surgeons in both facial plastic surgery and head and neck surgery, and I frequently travel around the country to speak on these topics. In addition to teaching and caring for patients, I conduct research that focuses on tissue engineering —creating functional human tissue from lab-grown cells — and outcomes in oncologic and reconstructive surgery.
