Medical Oncology

“I want your treatment to be integrated into your life, not to consume it.”

— Dr. Coveler

What’s your approach to working with patients?

My goal is to partner with you and your family so that you can take an active role in your care. I am an advocate for your choices so that you can confront the disease on your own terms. I strive to guide you through what’s unknown, sharing information about your disease, prognosis and treatment options. It is an honor to care for people with challenging diagnoses.

Why did you choose to join Fred Hutch?

I wanted to work at an institution that provides patient-centered care and plentiful opportunities for people to take part in clinical trials with new and novel treatments. Fred Hutch has been at the forefront of using the immune system to fight cancer. Though there has been limited success so far bringing immune-based therapies to GI cancers, I am hopeful it will happen. In addition, I enjoy working with the next generation of physicians, and I am able to do that by being a part of Fred Hutch and its partner organizations.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Pancreatic cancer, gastrointestinal cancers

Pancreatic Cancer
As the director of the Pancreatic Cancer Specialty Clinic, I review almost all the records of patients coming to Fred Hutch with pancreas cancer. You are likely to see one of my colleagues, but we often start the evaluation before you walk in the door so that your first visit is useful to you.

Esophageal, Stomach, Small Bowel, Colon, Anal and Liver Cancers (Including Neuroendocrine Tumors)
I am a medical oncologist who treats people with cancers of the gastrointestinal (GI) system, which includes many organs, such as the stomach and liver. My research spans several GI cancers. As a member of the Phase I Program, I collaborate with colleagues to bring new and novel therapies to Fred Hutch and those who come here for care.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
