“There’s something about health care as a profession that sincerely dedicates your entire life to taking care of people.”

— Ciana

Why do you work in health care?

I think there’s something about health care as a profession that sincerely dedicates your entire life, and not just your work life, to taking care of people and the rest of the population. I think there’s a lot of sacrifice in medicine and you really need to devote your whole life to education and training. Even when you’re done with your formal training, it’s important to stay up to date with research and information that’s coming out every day that may affect your patients. To me, that represented my personality and how I wanted to commit my life to my career.

What do you enjoy about working at Fred Hutch?

I am passionate about working in a multidisciplinary team and providing exceptional patient care with colleagues who share in that same passion. Everyone on a patient’s team truly cares about that individual’s personal goals and navigating a treatment plan.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Blood and marrow transplantation

When I was a physician assistant student, I kind of fell in love with the academic part of hematology and oncology on a cellular level. And then I decided I wanted to do an elective rotation as a student on bone marrow transplant to see if I liked it on a clinical level. And I fell in love with it. I really fell in love with the patients.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
