“My goal is to help you live as well as you can for as long as you can.”

— Cora

What do you enjoy about working in cancer care at Fred Hutch?

I think what sets Fred Hutch apart is the support and resources we provide our patients. Cancer is scary and overwhelming, but people who establish care with us never have to go it alone. You get a whole team of highly trained professionals who understand that a cancer diagnosis affects all aspects of your life, and they’re committed to seeing you and your family through the experience. It brings me joy when I run into former patients and I get to see firsthand what a difference our care has made. Once, when I was in line at the grocery store, someone I had treated approached me to say hello; she was smiling and doing great. It’s rewarding to see people going about their lives after treatment — even if it’s something as mundane as shopping — because I know that my colleagues and I helped make that moment possible.

How to do you approach care?

I try to get to know my patients’ lives outside of their diagnoses. Cancer might be the reason that you are in the hospital, but it doesn’t define you. When I can understand something about your life — your goals, your values and what makes you happy — I can make sure that the treatment plan we create honors and preserves what’s important to you. My goal is to help you live as well as you can for as long as you can.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
