“I treat my patients as if they were my own family members. Putting patients first helps us understand what's most important to them and their families.”

— Jinny

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

Before being wheeled into the operating room, a patient once said to me, “Treat me as a person, not as a patient.” Patients are our best teachers. It’s important to recognize that each person has their own distinct disease presentation, life circumstances, values, and goals. I view my role as being an ultimate healthcare advocate—to empower patients and guide them to achieve more desirable health outcomes.

Have you been personally impacted by cancer and how has this impacted your work?

A cancer diagnosis of a loved one has likely affected all of us. It is essential as a provider to recognize the highly individualized care and support that each patient requires in order to cope with their disease. I make it a priority with every patient to establish a close relationship with them and their multidisciplinary treatment team.

I believe that medicine, particularly oncology, is best practiced with an individualistic approach in mind.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
