Scott Ramsey, M.D., Ph.D.
HICOR Director
Dr. Ramsey is one of only a handful of doctors worldwide who are also health economists. He has led landmark studies on patterns of care and the costs and cost-effectiveness of treatments for lung, colorectal and prostate cancer. A practicing physician, he leads clinical trials through the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network as well as pragmatic trials evaluating health care delivery interventions through SWOG Cancer Research Network.

Veena Shankaran, M.D.
HICOR Co-Director
Dr. Shankaran is a gastrointestinal medical oncologist and health outcomes researcher who has devoted her research career to studying the financial challenges faced by cancer patients and caregivers. She has led several key studies demonstrating the serious financial impact that cancer treatment can have on patients. She also serves as the local principal investigator on a number of clinical trials in esophageal and gastric cancer. Shankaran has joint appointments at Fred Hutch, University of Washington School of Medicine and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, where she has a busy clinical practice.

Judy Nelson
HICOR Director of Strategy
As director of strategy for HICOR, Judy Nelson is responsible for administrative and operational oversight, scientific portfolio management, strategic planning, executive leadership support, HICOR governance and oversight, and management of emerging scientific initiatives. She also leads program development activities and HICOR communications, promoting HICOR’s vision, mission and research priorities regionally and nationally.
Karma Kreizenbeck
HICOR Director of Research & Partnerships
As director of research and partnerships for HICOR, Karma Kreizenbeck oversees HICOR’s oncology performance reporting program and the Community Cancer Care Report. She also leads HICOR’s community engagement, managing a network of collaborating oncology clinics and developing partnerships with leaders in government, the health insurance industry and clinical, quality and policy organizations. In addition, she manages HICOR’s portfolio of collaborative research with technology partners, including Microsoft and Tableau.
