The Office of Translational Research (OTR) is responding to community needs, we push beyond the boundaries of lab-based discoveries to practical applications and treatments by establishing frameworks and fostering innovation.
We organize our cross-cutting work into five core pillars: Seattle Translational Tumor Research, Translational Clinical Data, Specimen and Data Access Network, Specimen Data Management, and Oncoscape.
Seattle Translational Tumor Research
Seattle Translational Tumor Research (STTR) unites over 450 clinicians and scientists across 16 tumor-specific research teams, providing them with the necessary connections, tools, and resources to advance their research. Our vision is to create an environment tailored to researchers and clinicians, which allows them to accelerate scientific discoveries and translate it into cures for patients, both regionally and globally.
Translational Clinical Data
Based on input from ongoing conversations with the translational research community, we are identifying high priority clinical data elements and their use. This information will guide institutional clinical abstraction, clinical note templating efforts and eventually AI/NLP workflows and efforts to better meet the needs of our investigators.
Specimen and Data Access Network
The Specimen and Data Access Network (SAN), launched by OTR in 2019, is a network of Pacific Northwest-based human health-centered institutions focused on supporting and accelerating innovation in patient care. SAN supports fast access to specimen and data by leveraging the network of organizations to share resources, information, and opportunities for collaboration, saving time for investigators to focus on pushing their science forward.
Specimen Data Management
OTR manages OpenSpecimen, a specimen data management tool available to all investigators at Fred Hutch, University of Washington or Seattle Children’s. Oncoscape
Oncoscape is a web-based platform that empowers researchers to explore and enrich their clinical and molecular data with a visualization-first mindset. We aim to democratize modern analysis techniques and visualizations through an intuitive, point-and-click interface.
